Remember!!!

Happy Memorial Day!!!
Remember those who serve in your prayers and in your hearts.

Friday, May 28, 2010

It's FRIDAY!!!

It’s Friday and we’re moving into a 3 day weekend…Yeah!!!

Today, I feel like rambling a bit.

I wrote a little while ago about how I really don’t want to use my blog as a place for debate. I know there are probably people out there who will disagree with what I have to say. You’re human and so am I. I don’t claim to have a dogmatic lock on views. I believe that disciples should be teachable, not dogmatic.

Which brings me to the reason for this part of these ruminations, do I think what I have to say is important? The answer to that is yes and no. Sometimes I think (key word “think”) what I say is important. I have spent too many years plopped down in a church pew accepting what I was taught at the feet of the “learned” crowd. I have issue basically with those that know scripture, but they don’t know love. (Could this be along the lines of “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof?” Or how about, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.2 Tim 3:7. We like to think this about non-christians, but how about those who claim to be in the body.) (This is an EDIT to my original post. This sentence "We like to think..." was in the wrong place in my post. Cut and paste is good if used right...LOL)

All Scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 2 Tim 3:16. ALL of it is profitable. Not just the convenient pieces. (That’s a comment for everyone who are studying the elephant with the blindfolds on…LOL…Maybe I’ll share that rambling one day.)

Jesus was critical of the religious people of His day saying, “They knew the law, they just didn’t know the spirit behind the law.” Why was the law in place? What was its purpose? But then the ‘tradition’ argument gets used too. “You should know the ‘tradition’ of why the ‘church’ does this.” Jesus said once, “Why do you transgress the law of God by your traditions?” I saw a poster that said, “Just because you’ve always done it that way doesn’t mean it’s not incredibly stupid.” Funny, but it makes a point.

I have a job. It has lots of people. Without getting into details there are a number of people (who probably go to church) who won’t do what is asked of them because “it’s not their job.” Didn’t Jesus talk about going the “extra mile?” Seems some people can’t even take it upon themselves to walk across a room for someone. Our country seems to be going in that direction. There are those in power who want to force people to be ‘charitable’ while avoiding doing anything themselves.

I read a paper from someone who was critical of government welfare because it takes the compassion out of giving. “Hey, why should I give and be a part of the process, and be a part of people’s lives when the government will do it for me?” The story of the good Samaritan had nothing to do with the government forcing compassion, nor getting the government to take from some to give to others.

Robin Hood didn’t “steal from the rich to give to the poor.” He stole from the government what it took from the peasants through over taxing and he gave it back to the people.

A friend of mine just started signing his emails with “How about you try loving God first, and loving your neighbor, before you start to criticize me for what I’m doing wrong.”

All I ask from anyone who reads my blog’s stuff, “Don’t take my word for anything. Come to Jesus yourself and hear what He has to say.”

These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily [to find out] whether these things were so. Acts 17:11

“I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness [comes] through the law, then Christ died in vain.” Galatians 2:21.

Be blessed. Be a blessing.

I loves me some Pink Floyd with a side order of asparagus with a nice cheese sauce, and a little white wine maybe a piece of cherry pie for dessert.

If I Were a...(My tagged responses)

If I were a...

MONTH: October. The month when it starts to change, the weather starts to just get a bit cooler and the leaves are starting to change. (Well, in other states. Here in Florida, most of the pine trees stay green.)

DAY: Saturday. It's the day to sleep in. Maybe I'll have a DJ gig in the evening.

TIME OF DAY: 8:00 PM. Usually close to kickin' in the cool music after everyone has had dinner at a Wedding reception. The dance music is getting ready to break forth and the fun will begin.

SEASON: Autumn. Just starting to get cool. Light jacket weather.

PLANET: Earth. Full of life and struggles. This is my inner self. Saved by grace. Working it out. Struggling still.

DIRECTION: Can be rather undecided and wandering.

TREE: Oak tree. Tall (well, actually, I'm not that tall) and strong (I have been going to the gym though). Makes good fire wood or great looking cabinets and wood furniture (hence, is useful.)

ANIMAL: Vacillate between a dog, friendly and loving, to a cat, independent and quiet.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENT: Acoustic Guitar. Something that resonates.

FRUIT: Watermelon. It's perfect in the summer. It almost makes me forget the crazy hot. Almost.

FOOD: Spaghetti, with a nice side salad with 1000 island dressing and some cheesecake for dessert. A little sloppy. A little healthy. ALL GOOD...LOL...at least I can pretend.

COLOR: Blue...sometimes...represents how I feel sometimes...I rejoice in the Lord, but sometimes am saddened by the lack of love and compassion from the people who claim to be His servants.

BOOK: Book of Philippians...

SONG: Welcome to Struggleville. It seems I live in the struggles. It seems I'm the cause of my struggles. Thank God for Jesus.
"I've been trying to negotiate peace
With my own existence.
She's gotta stockpile full of weaponry;
She breaking every cease-fire agreement.
Whole thing is full of decay
Just as sure as I'm made of dust,
And into rust I know the beast is falling."

MOVIE: Return to Me. David (X-Files) Duchovney(?) and Minnie Driver. I loves me a movie that can make you laugh and cry and not be embarrassing. This is what I want to be able to do in life...make people laugh, make people cry for good reasons.

FLOWER: Gardenia.

FACIAL EXPRESSION: Smile. Laughter is good. But sometimes in a somber moment people just need a smile.

Be blessed. Be a Blessing.
Let me reach out and tag someone.

My tagged peeps...

Louisiana Belle - She just had to watch her daughter move to another place.

Justin Dell - Another Great Blogger.

Don't take it personally if I didn't tag you. Since most of you have probably been tagged already and I don't know what I'm doing anyway...

I've Been Tagged...

I've been tagged by Wolfie. That means I have to write some stuff.
I'll get back to everyone on that.

Tonight I have to go.

Be blessed. Be a blessing.

Page 2...Concept Album...Shrapnel

The outside noise increases as more of the hoi polloi stumble into the waiting day. In the distance someone lays on their car horn. Why?

Gazing out of my window, insipid characters pass in front of me as if in some dull stage play. Each player seems to be mindlessly sleepwalking through the parts they have chosen to play. Some faces, devoid of joy, show wear and tear from lives lived without knowledge, point or purpose. Do we question the ritual?

Song 2...Ritual

The door flings open
on another working day
And I move into the street
To silently survey

Faces on their way
Some I'll never know
Other's I'll never meet
This one is on the go

This one is hurting
One thinks he's okay
There's a smile on an innocent boy
And one with something to say

As we go through this ritual
Pursuing some temporal prize
And our lives become habitual
Worthless treasures dangled before our eyes...

Will I find an answer
Or some sense of truth
Or wake up to discover
I've wasted away my youth

The players in this ritual
Like cattle, herd on by
Afraid to touch the people passing
Some comical, some just want to die

As we go through this ritual
Pursuing some temporal prize
And our lives become habitual
Worthless treasures dangled before our eyes...

(Bridge) May we break out of this ritual
May we find what's has been paid so dear
May we listen to the voice so quiet
In the silence may we hear

May we question this silly ritual
And stop pursuing this fleeting prize
And realize it's so comical
To chase after all these lies...

Great Songs...

From 20 to 19

Seems I lost someone. It took me a day, but I see it was Grammy...
Oh well...went from no followers to 20, back to 19 in 2 months...how cool is that...

Keep me in your prayers. Finding the struggles of life can be difficult sometimes. But God is with me...

Someone once said, "If you haven't had to deal with the devil's traps and snares today, you must be moving in the same direction as he is." Not exactly the right quote, but it works.

I used to end my emails with "Don't trust me. I'm human." Why did I say that? Because in some way, manner or fashion, I won't live up to what you think I should be. But you know what? God loves me anyway and He NEVER fails.

Be blessed. Be a blessing.
Don't trust me, I'm human.
I still loves me some Pink Floyd and a good roast beef sandwich, with mayo, lettuce and tomatoes, with some cheesecake for dessert.

The Cars - The Cars (First Album)
"Life's the same/I'm movin' in stereo/Life's the same/Except for my shoes"
Great song. Great CD.

Lost Dogs - Little Red Riding Hood
Great slice of Americana type music. Eleanor It's Raining is possibly one of my most favorite songs.

The Choir - Wide Eyed Wonder
How can you not love a CD that's sings about kids...

Irony and sarcasm with a little humor thrown in. Some of the best writing of songs dealing with great subjects. "What is the Measure of Your Success" "Are You a Principled Man."

Ticks and Online...such silliness. Besides, I can relate to Online. "I'm so much cooler online/Yeah, I'm cooler online"

Chris Hayes - Eyelids
Local artist here in FWB, FL, but originally from England. Great voice. Great talent. Love his CD. Quiet. Acoustic. Beautiful.

Sunday Afternoon

I'm back from the retreat.
Dangerous Freedom.
Good stuff. I may post a couple of insights that I've gleaned.
One thing we talked about that I thought was great was
"If we focus on Grace, we become obedient. If we focus on obedience, we become mean."

What was the Pharisees claim to fame? "We do this. We don't do that. Therefore, God loves us."

I've learn that focusing on Grace (that Truth that God loves me no matter what) I desire what God desires. I want what God wants. I want to do what God wants me to do. Sure I stumble. Sure I struggle, but I'm no longer dogged by guilt for not living up to what some critic thinks I should be living up to because I know God loves me.

I can make claims like Paul did in Philippians. I can say I've made a profession of faith. I can say I've been baptised in water and in the spirit. I can say that I am a member of a fellowship of believers. But like Paul, I can also say that I could it all 'dung except for the knowledge of the excellency of Christ Jesus my Lord." All that is just an outward expression of a Child of God. But, those outward expressions can also just be masks. As Paul once said, (paraphrase) "If I move a mountain, but have not love, it means nothing."1 Corinthians 13. It becomes, "I did this, that and the other. Therefore, I'm saved." That becomes works of the flesh and not faith. But grace says, "I'm saved, so I express it by love. If Jesus says get baptised, I'll gladly do it out of faith and love. If Jesus says fellowship with brothers and sisters, I gladly do it out of faith and love...etc..." Are you catching what I'm saying.

Final thought. Jesus said that the world would know that we are his disciples by the love we have for one another. Pray about it. Seek Jesus' will.

Be blessed. Be a blessing.
Anyone have some cheesecake I can have.
I need to put on some Floyd. Pink Floyd. I loves me some Pink Floyd.

Monday's Contemplation

Here it is Monday, and I'm in contemplation mode. What do I want to post about?
I've collected my list of 15 favorites. Now I just need to enhance my list with "why do I like." Maybe I will or maybe I won't.

Now for a little lesson on me. I like people who follow my blogs. That's cool. I wish I could follow everyone else. But, I'm not one to follow sites that I don't entirely agree with, or just make me want to debate. I don't care if it's theology or politics.

My views are my views. I've traveled this life for almost 50 years. I've played the political games, I've played the religious games. As Eric Clapton once penned, "I have finally found a place to dwell/In the presence of the Lord."

I believe the Jesus sacrificed His life that I might have a life most abundant...that's not a faith movement thing. If Jesus isn't enough then as Paul said in Galatians, "I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness [comes] through the law, then Christ died in vain." Galatians 2:21

What I do is out of love for Jesus. What I do is also out of love for others.

While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Does this mean I'm free to ...whatever? We are free indeed, but we are bound by Love. Christ is Love.

Anyone can throw out scripture versus to back their point of view. But if you won't love me because I don't agree with you doesn't that fall under the verse, "If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?" 1 John 4:20. Or how about when Jesus told the religious people of His day "And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?" Matthew 7:3.

These are my views, that I've gather after years of diligently seeking Jesus, and finding Him.

If you want to assign me my place in hell because I may not agree with you, bummer. But, thanks be to God, it ain't up to me or you.

If you want to argue, feel free to post, but, I may not approve it. I've heard many a myriad of arguments and points of view. Jesus was nailed to a cross by people who thought they were 'right' in the eyes of God.

We can either love those we can, or we can argue about words and stuff that gets us nowhere.

So, I hope we keep encouraging each other. I hope that you come to the fullness of Christ. May you be filled with the Spirit and may you overflow to the people around you.

Be blessed. Be a blessing.
I still loves me some Pink Floyd.

Gotta DJ gig tonight. Don't know if I can get around to writing anything of substance...SOOOO....

Here is one of my old poems/songs with no music if you will.

It's so easy
To lose track
Lose track of what's important
It's so simple
To forget
To forget to say you care
It's so funny
What we think
What we think is important
It's so silly
What we give
What we give all our care

And the sun comes up
And the sun goes down
Another day goes by

At My Front Door

The jasmine is blooming
At my front door
Tis but for a moment
Then are no more
But then come the next year
When they come back to play
For to enjoy their fragrance
Another sunny day
So I'll enjoy their beauty
And their aroma so pure
And share a snapshot with you
Hope it brings you some cheer...

Okay...Yvonne's poem's better...:)
Good stuff out there if you can find it
I still loves me some Pink Floyd
Be blessed. Be a blessing
Take time to smell the flowers.

Lists

Wolfie mentioned on her latest blog about her top 5 favorite movies.
I think someone else mentioned making a list of their favorite albums/CDs.

I think that's what I'll post on tomorrow, but I must give it some thought.

Wednesday

The azaleas have quit blooming
Now the jasmine is bustin' out
I'm in love with that fragrance
It makes wanna shout
Shout for joy for the beauty that's shared
Shout for joy for the love in the air
Shout for joy as a new day begins
Shout for joy to find life again...

Poem for the day

Thoughts for Today

The A to Z challenged forced me to actually come in here and write something everyday. But it did give me a starting point, a letter. Makes it simple. You can write a lot or you can write a little depending on the letter. Some times it was easy. Sometimes it was a big challenge (thus A to Z challenge.)

Problem I now have is, what do I write about today? What can I share with you that will catch your interest? Those of you who have become fellow travelers with me (I still find it hard to call you followers. I would rather you walk beside me.) know that I loves me some Pink Floyd. You also know I like a wide variety of music.

There is so much to share, but how do I share it? What can I say today that will be worth your time?

Do I have time? Not really but I had to write something...this is the problem now. I'm here because I need to write something...Is my existence less valid if I don't write something? Nope. But dang, I like hearing from everyone. It's so cool to have people from around the world commenting on something I said.

Maybe when I have time tomorrow I'll say something with substance.
Until tomorrow, if I have time...Maybe later tonight. LOL.

Be blessed. Be a blessing.

Mark Heard...Serenading in Heaven since 1992

Just a few Thoughts on the A-Z Challenge

As some of you dear readers of my little blog will note, I started this about 3 years ago, maybe posting 1 or 2 a month, one month I did 7 posts. Then Arlee Byrd from tossing it out stumbled into my little blog. He became a follower (scary term…follower…as Paul would say, follow me as I follow Christ…save that for another blog…LOL). Anyway, back to the subject at hand. Then he challenged me to join his A to Z Challenge. I didn’t think I was up to the task, but that’s just me.

Anyway, I jumped into the challenge head first…I think I bumped it on something. I’ve met a lot of new people…hello everyone. Gained some new followers (see note above about that. LOL) Became a follower myself of many enjoyable blogs.

With much encouragement and the many responses, I’ve managed to pull from within me blogging thoughts that I hope weren’t to tedious and boring. But also some fun stuff that I’ve posted. Hopefully, I’ll have more stuff worth posting to share, and maybe I’ll even get more awards…thanks Wolfie. But, I want to make this known, I don’t do this for the awards, but it’s still nice. I write because I like to write. It’s just nice knowing someone is reading, and as Mark Twain once said, “The compliment that helps us on our way is not the one that is shut up in the mind, but the one that is spoken out.”

Having a full time job, plus a DJ business (my fun job) on the side (this is getting to be my busy season again) I’m finding I can’t spend as much time blogging (reading and writing) as I would like to, but I will try to post (and reply) as often as I can. I hope everyone gets a chance to read some of my posts. Wish I had the time to read everything everyone writes. I try to respond, but can’t all the time. Thanks everyone for reading. Thanks everyone for blogging.

This past month has been fun. I will make an effort to post at least a couple of times week if I have time. Then again, I may post so much you may get sick of me…LOL…

Be blessed everyone. Be a blessing.

I forgot this guy for my Z post...for all the Aussies out there...

Rather sexy I'd say...

One of my all time favorite bands...PINK FLOYD!!!

My Very first post...May 14, 2007 (THREE YEARS AGO)

The following paragraphs are the conclusion of my very first blog spot post from May of 2007. Not 2, but 3 years ago. My how time flies. Hope it makes you think...

"The thing about the Pharisees and the Sadducees is that both groups hated Jesus and sought to have him killed. On the right, mercy and compassion are sacrificed on the altar of ‘religion.’ On the left the Truth and Life are sacrificed on the altar of ‘self.’

"What is the problem with politics? The people we elect into office are still…people – fallen men and women in need of the Savior. We should never place our trust in governments. God sets up governments and God will tear them down. Our trust should be in the God of creation – not in the created. Our problem is not that we are involved with politics. Our problem is we think government will solve our problems.

II Chronicles 7:14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

May we all come to trust Jesus for all our needs...for in the end, we all need Love (Jesus).

Blessings and Grace,
Glen"
