I think one of my favorite stories Jesus tells is about the religious leader and the tax collector who were both praying.
Luk 18:10-14 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.'
And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise [his] eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!'
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified [rather] than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
So many times we think because of our good works we are worthy of God's love and those that we don't think are worthy God won't have anything to do with. That so goes with the prodigal son story. So many talk about the prodigal, but we forget the other brother who stayed home. He thought that the father was being ridiculous letting the prodigal come home. What the brother didn't understand is that the father never stops loving either son (or daughter) no matter what.
We are all unworthy, but through faith in Jesus He becomes our righteousness. He makes us worthy...
Be blessed. Be a blessing.
