New Computer and Mission Year

Greetings all.
I am writing this on a new computer that I received from my daughter and her husband.  It's a really nice HP laptop.

I love getting new stuff, but sometimes it can complicate life. I have to transition over everything to here. I have to collect stuff off the old computer. Email addresses and DJ emails and software...etc...

Enough of that. I get really testy sometimes when I have to do stuff like that...LOL...I read somewhere that talking about your problems DOESN'T help. Seems that constantly talking about your issues just makes them worse. Why? you may ask. Because it just keeps reminding yourself about what you are mad about in the first place.

Just praise God and move on with your life. There is great power in Praise.

Anyway, let me tell you what is happening right now with my son. He is current on a mission in Texas. He's working with the group MISSIONYEAR.ORG . If you are interested in donating to help him out got to MISSION YEAR DONATION and down at the bottom at the pull-down menu "Designation:" find my son's name SAM MCCLEAD. Help him out and help out a great organization.

If you are interested in helping him out or writing to him, send me your email address and I'll pass on your information, or you can email him at sneads777@yahoo.com.

Thanks again for reading my ramblings.

I did finish my book. Not going to publish it. It's just thoughts of mine on discipleship. I'm not an expert. But if you're interested in reading it, email me at taz331@cox.net and I'll email a copy to you.

Thanks again to all who read this. Sorry I haven't been here that often.

BTW...for those who are interested

I am currently writing book. If you are interested let me know.
It's just a little tome on Discipleship. Don't know when I'll finish it.
It will talk a little about checking scripture references when listening to someone teach...(btw...check my last blog...how many caught my error in scripture reference.)

Until next time...eat cheesecake, listen to Pink Floyd, Love Jesus above all else.

“As we think, so shall we act.”

This post has been modified due to my error in scripture references...(My references should have been Ecclesiastes not Proverbs).

There are some different variations of that quote, but it is still something we should consider.

I like to have fun. I like to joke around. But sometimes we have to consider what we say to people. What we say can have an impact on someone.

God spoke and life was created. God spoke and the dead came alive.

James says that the tongue is a powerful tool.

“So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire. And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the whole course of life, and set on fire by hell.” James 3:5-6 ESV

How many people’s lives have been shipwrecked by words? How many lives have been destroyed because someone told them over and over again they weren’t good enough, pretty enough, smart enough? How many lives have been ruined because they gave up due to the constant drum beat of “you’re no good.”

Or at the other end of the spectrum - how many people have had it beat into their heads that they are better than everyone else? They don’t listen to anyone else, because they have an overblown view of themselves? They look down on those who don’t measure up to their standards. They don’t want to have anything to do with people whom they deem “not good enough.”

Ecclesiastes 7:16, 17 “Do not be overly righteous, Nor be overly wise: Why should you destroy yourself?
Do not be overly wicked, Nor be foolish: Why should you die before your time?”

Ecclesiastes 7:21, 22 “Also do not take to heart everything people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. For many times, also, your own heart has known that even you have cursed others.”

What we think of ourselves has a lot of bearing on how we act. If we think of ourselves as no good, we start to behave that way. If we think that we’ll amount to nothing, we stop trying. If we think we are better than everyone else, we start looking down our noses at everyone else. If we think we know everything, we stop listening to others, but demand others listen to us.

What we say to people and how we say it takes a lot of discernment. What we say can build a person up, or it can tear them down. Things we say can build up a person’s ego, or help them see the truth.

Following the Spirit’s lead can be a tricky thing. We must empty ourselves and allow His guidance on what we say, and how we say it. That can be hard if we let ourselves get in the way.

Also, we need to learn to let GOD be the final arbiter of who we are and who others are. Remember, for God so loved the world.

May we all learn to discern.

Thoughts on Disciples

Jesus said go and make disciples. Disciples should be teachable. Instead, most of us become dogmatic. We don’t learn. We accept tradition. We accept the view that “this is how we always do it.” We’re like “this is this and that is that and don’t vary from this or we will have to paint you as some sort of heathen.”

Yes, there are some that have “strayed from the faith,” but just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean they’ve strayed from the faith. Think about this, maybe it’s you that strayed. Maybe we should each learn from each other. Listen to what the other is saying. I once saw a quote that said, “There are three sides to every story – yours, mine and the truth.” Don’t trash your brother because you don’t agree with them. John once said, “He who says he loves God and hates his brother, is a liar.” 1 John 4:20.

What is your “faith” in? What have you learned? What have you been taught?

"Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18.

Can we be reasonable? “God said it. I believe it. That settles it,” is not very reasonable. I understand the view behind it, but it isn’t very helpful. No one likes to have their views challenged. Why do people want to censor others? Because they don’t want to hear any views that are different than theirs. It’s on both sides of the political spectrum. It’s in most of the religious communities. We isolate ourselves from opposing views because it makes us uncomfortable.

Paul said we should be like Bereans. “Listen to what he says, but check it out.” In the new vernacular, “Listen, but verify.” Acts 17:11.

Me? I’m confident in what I believe. What do I believe? I believe that God loved me enough to take my sins on His shoulders and nailed them to the cross so I don’t have to hope I’m good enough. God gave me hope in knowing that I am good enough in Christ.

What does that mean for my relationship with others? I can hang out and talk with others, and still love them. I don’t have to agree with them. I don’t even have to discuss my views with them. I am confident in my relationship with Jesus. Does that mean I haven’t changed my views on some issues? No. I have altered my views on some things. I’ve moved to a more loving view.

My views aren’t perfect. I’m constantly learning and growing. I never believe that my view is the final view. The one thing that I am sure of is, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but will have everlasting life.” John 3:16

There is so much more I could say on this, but I leave at that for right now.

Learn from each other, but above all love each other.

Be blessed. Be a blessing.
