Thoughts on Disciples

Jesus said go and make disciples. Disciples should be teachable. Instead, most of us become dogmatic. We don’t learn. We accept tradition. We accept the view that “this is how we always do it.” We’re like “this is this and that is that and don’t vary from this or we will have to paint you as some sort of heathen.”

Yes, there are some that have “strayed from the faith,” but just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean they’ve strayed from the faith. Think about this, maybe it’s you that strayed. Maybe we should each learn from each other. Listen to what the other is saying. I once saw a quote that said, “There are three sides to every story – yours, mine and the truth.” Don’t trash your brother because you don’t agree with them. John once said, “He who says he loves God and hates his brother, is a liar.” 1 John 4:20.

What is your “faith” in? What have you learned? What have you been taught?

"Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18.

Can we be reasonable? “God said it. I believe it. That settles it,” is not very reasonable. I understand the view behind it, but it isn’t very helpful. No one likes to have their views challenged. Why do people want to censor others? Because they don’t want to hear any views that are different than theirs. It’s on both sides of the political spectrum. It’s in most of the religious communities. We isolate ourselves from opposing views because it makes us uncomfortable.

Paul said we should be like Bereans. “Listen to what he says, but check it out.” In the new vernacular, “Listen, but verify.” Acts 17:11.

Me? I’m confident in what I believe. What do I believe? I believe that God loved me enough to take my sins on His shoulders and nailed them to the cross so I don’t have to hope I’m good enough. God gave me hope in knowing that I am good enough in Christ.

What does that mean for my relationship with others? I can hang out and talk with others, and still love them. I don’t have to agree with them. I don’t even have to discuss my views with them. I am confident in my relationship with Jesus. Does that mean I haven’t changed my views on some issues? No. I have altered my views on some things. I’ve moved to a more loving view.

My views aren’t perfect. I’m constantly learning and growing. I never believe that my view is the final view. The one thing that I am sure of is, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but will have everlasting life.” John 3:16

There is so much more I could say on this, but I leave at that for right now.

Learn from each other, but above all love each other.

Car Ads and Relationships

I saw a car advertisement that had a girl that was worried about her parents not socializing enough because they only had 16 friends on Facebook, but she had over 200 friends. While she talked, the scene would flash between her sitting at her computer by herself and her parents out in their car enjoying a party with their 16 friends. Sad state of affairs for people when they think they have a social life based on a number of people that have ‘friended’ them on the computer.

Need to shop? Go online.

Need to donate money? Go online.

Want to farm? Farmville!

Want to play games? We have an app for that.

The only reason anyone socializes any more is because we need money to pay for all the gadgets we want.

Have our gadgets become our task masters?

“My TV works fine, but it’s not big enough.”

“My DVD player plays DVDs well enough, but it’s not a BluRay disc player. Oh, the quality is so wonderful; it’s almost like being there.” Now you have to replace all your DVDs with BluRay discs.

Huh? Why not try ‘being there.’ Can’t get any more real than that.

We get our news from the internet. We don’t talk to people anymore. We have so isolated ourselves we don’t know how to have relationships anymore. We bury our faces in computers, books, video games, chat rooms, and the list goes on.

It’s easy to trash talk someone you don’t know personally. It’s easy to look down on those you don’t have a relationship with. When we can depersonalize people it’s easy to dismiss them and their opinions. When we refuse to talk to people because they don’t agree with what we think that’s NOT love. When you feel you must resort to name calling, you’ve lost any argument or point you may have tried to make. If you want to claim someone is going to hell before you even get to know that person, why should they even listen to you share with them about Jesus.

Ask yourself this, "How did Jesus approach people?" His worst criticisms and references of 'children of the devil' were always directed at religious people. Hmm?

I was thinking about this the other day. How many of us say we “will do whatever you ask God.” We make all kinds of claims to righteousness. We don’t smoke. We don’t drink. We go to church. We think we are building up all these brownie points with God. But we don’t do the simple things that Jesus said were the top 2 priorities – “Love God, then love your neighbors.”

We’re so busy trying to ‘prove’ how worthy we are, that we forget that “not by works of righteousness will anyone be justified.” We neglect or ignore those who need to be touched by Jesus, by refusing to touch them. The very people that need Jesus the most are the same people we refuse to have anything to do with because it might make us look bad in the eyes of the religious people.

Jesus didn’t care that he was called the “friend of sinners.” Sinners need him. We need him. If we say that we’ll “go, sir” to work in the vineyard, don’t you think maybe we should?

Nearing the End of August

Only 2 more days in August and I haven't once blogged this month. JEEZ...

There are so many things that pass through my mind over the days...some of them actually shareable...LOL...

Does anyone even wonder what's up with each other? Everyone who's read my posts and whose posts I've read, would we even recognize each other is we past on the street?

There is so much that I should do. There is so much I need to do...but if I don't do it, God will still be on His throne. He will still love me. He will not cast me away from Him. I am not ashamed of the Gospel. Jesus died for my sins, and rose again to justify me before the Father. There is nothing I can do to add to or take away from His great sacrifice. For God so loved...me...

That is so cool. All I can do is love Him back...in my own imperfect way...

Until next time...Know you are greatly and unconditionally loved by Jesus. Me, I'm not that great, but I am loved.

Nearing the End of July

Fourth of July party in Valparaiso was great. Had a great time. They want me to DJ next year for them. That will be cool.

I am going to try to get back to writing something in here every now and again. I've been having my usual amount of thoughts about things, but not finding the moments to sit and write them here. I've been more busy lately which is good. Better than being bored and unemployed.

Wish I was independently wealthy though. Also wish I had some extra income...anyone know anyone that needs a DJ? LOL...

Thinkin' and Drivin'

I was driving home from work today and I was thinking about how a friend of mine, who's a fantastic guitar player, told me he couldn't read music. I was thinking man...Then I started to think about people who can read music. They can play but it seems to have no heart.

That got me to thinking about the people I know that don't have a whole lot of book knowledge about God, but they are some of the most loving people and they have a heart for Jesus. Then I started thinking about people who have all this book knowledge about God, but don't know a thing about love. They consider their "knowledge" their "proof" that they love God more than the next man.

Maybe it's just us as a society that have been conditioned that way. We think those with the letters after their names are the only ones that have anything to share about Jesus. Only they can teach us.

I have a tendency to think a lot sometimes.

In My Skin

Crawling into my skin I wander this temporal life as a human...struggling with my humanity while reaching to God. All the while God reaches down to me, to become a man and die for me.
He expresses His great love for me that while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me.
Love gives of itself. Religion demands that I behave myself. Love just does.
Religion, while telling us Jesus is the Way, then says you don't need Christ because if you follow our religious rules you'll be accepted. Jesus said you're accepted because of what I have done for you because I love you, now love one another.

Good morning to those who read this blog. I wish I had lots more time to actually keep this more up to date. For those who come back every now and then to see if I've posted anything. Thank you. For those who haven't been here in a while. Thank you for visiting me in the past and becoming a follower.
I make no promise that I'll be keeping this up to date. I don't know what tomorrow, or for that matter, what this afternoon will hold. Life can keep one busy. I know I like sharing my comments and thoughts and appreciate any comments people make. I hope I can make you think.
Jesus said to "go and make disciples." The thing I believe about disciples is that a disciple is not dogmatic but teachable.
We are all on a journey. That journey begins when you walk through the Door (John 10:9). Be open to the Spirit of God. Follow His lead. Love. Laugh. Pray. Seek Jesus continually. I don't mean religion either.

Q is for Questions

I heard a quote once that stated, “A fool has more questions than a wise man has time to answer.”

Basically, the foolish man will keep asking questions regardless of what answers they have been given.

I had a conversation with someone who would always ask me questions about my faith. When I gave him my thoughtful response he would always seem to have a pat comeback. One day he asked me a question and I just simply said, “I don’t know. What do you think?” He then gave me the response that he had planned before I could answer. He was surprised that I responded by saying, “Okay, can I get back to my conversation now?” Since I was talking to someone else when he asked the question.

He said, “I didn’t mean to make you mad.”

I told him he didn’t make me mad, but I knew he didn’t want to hear what I had to say. He just wanted to give me his response. I told him later when he came by my area, if he was right, then our conversations mean nothing and are a waste of time. But If I was right, and I believe that I was and still am, then he is in trouble and that bothered me.

As a Christian we should always be ready to give an answer for this hope that we have. But, we need to be as wise as serpents and as harmless as doves. We need to be discerning because there will come a moment when it is time to brush the dust from our feet and move on. Sometimes it’s best just to walk away from a dog that keeps trying to bite you than to keep trying to pet it.

I don’t believe in “trophy” friendships. “What is a ‘trophy’ friendship?” You may ask. It’s a friendship built on nothing but winning them to your point of view. If they don’t come to your point of view you toss them away and move on to the next ‘trophy.’

I believe in building relationships, but relationships need to be based on love. Romans 12:9 “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.”

The guy I mentioned at the beginning of this? We are still friends. He may not agree with me, but he knows I love him and would do what I can to help him.

Those who like to use Romans to condemn groups of people by using select verses need to read all of Romans. Paul condemns everyone. We are all guilty and in need of Jesus' saving grace.

As Paul would say, "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

N is for Nonsense

Before I take you on my small road trip here let me give you the definition that I'm using.

Nonsense...(from Dictionary.com #5) "anything of trifling importance or of little or no use."

How many of us have gotten caught up in the whole "golden calf" frame of mind? In order to love our families we must 'give them the best of everything.' How many have lost their family or friends chasing the "American Dream?" How many in the body of Christ have equated riches and fame with blessings from God?

Jesus said we can't serve God and money. Sometimes what God desires from us goes against monetary gain.

We sometimes defend our selfishness as some sort of "right."

I will let you know, I have just as much of a problem with people who think that they have a "right" to take from the rich to distribute to who they think deserve it. We are told that if we don't work we don't eat. But, we are also told to feed those who are hungry, clothe those who are naked, give drink to the thirsty. This is all a part of love. Jesus didn't tell us to take from some people to give to others. He basically wanted us, out of love for each other, to take care of each other.

Some people in politics like to think of themselves as Robin Hood. They think they are taking from the rich to give to the poor. What exactly did the legend known as Robin Hood do? He took from a oppressive over taxing government money taken from the people and gave it back to the people. Do I endorse stealing? No way.

I believe in helping others. It is what God wants. It's not the government's job. It's everyone of us in Christ's job. But, if we consider it our "Christian duty" then we are doing it for the wrong reason.

Love just does. Everything else is nonsense.

M is for Mature

You ever see those movies where they say "For Mature Audiences?" Most of the time the characters are acting anything but mature.

How about "Mature Language." That's a good one.

Let's see. What is mature language. Uh...commitment. Sobriety. Moderation. Control. Faithfulness. Love. Kindness.

Some movies with the "Mature Language" just remind me of kids who just learn a bad word that will "shock" their parents so they use it a lot. Yeah, right, really mature.

I guess maybe I'm just God fashioned. Perfect? No. Loving? Try to be. Forgiven? Definitely.

J is for Jesus

Misunderstood. Misrepresented. Misapplied.
Jesus is considered a controversial figure of history. Others claim he never existed. He's had profound effects on people. He's been used to manipulate people. He has changed people. He's changed my heart and life. Am I perfect? Nope.
What do I believe? I believe that Jesus came to earth, lived as a man. Gave His life for mine to make me acceptable to the Father so I don't have to try and be perfect. He was perfect for me. Does that mean I can be willfully hateful? Nope. Like one of my posts the other day says, "If you truly believed like I do" you wouldn't think like that. Grace is such an amazing thing.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

"While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." You and me.

I is for Innocent

I think not.

Our souls from the day we are born are stained. But I know the Stain Remover.
I know what washes whiter than snow.
He suffered, bled and died for us and He rose again to justify us.
Not by my works. By by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The Ultimate Stain Remove. Once and for all.

H is for Hope

One of the definitions of hope is “to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence.”

One of the most recognizable chapters in the Bible, 1^st Corinthians 13, ends with the following verse, (13) “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Some time ago I wrote one of my little ramblings on the verse about faith, hope and love. My emphasis was on the last part of the verse that states, “But the greatest of these is love.”

Right now I’m going to focus on hope. Why? Because H is for Hope. But I have to do a little bit on the other two words. Faith is what saves us. Who we put our faith in is what saves us. Work doesn’t save us. Words don’t save us. Who do you REALLY put your faith in? I believe I am saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Not by works. Religious people have problems with grace. They like to talk about it, but their attitudes reflect a view of “works.”

My pastor the other day told a story about 2 pastors that were riding horses. One was legalistic and the other was discussing grace. The legalistic pastor after a bit of discussion said, “Well, if I believed like you do, I would just take it upon myself to knock you out and take your horse for myself and not worry about the consequences.”

The other pastor looked at him and said, “If you REALLY believed like I do, that thought would never enter your mind.”

I believe that when you truly put your faith is Jesus you do gain hope and your life becomes guided by love. People can be religious and never know love. Religion says, “you must do these things or god will not accept you.”

God says, “I love you so much, trust me.” I believe in Jesus. This gives me hope and my hope is guided by love. I have hope because I know that there is more to this life. I know that He has prepared a place for me. I know that if I die today, I have a tomorrow. Hope sustains me in times of trouble. Love guides me and gives me hope.

There is so much more that I can write on this subject, but I will leave you with this thought. If God is love, and Jesus is God incarnate, then Jesus must be the embodiment of Love. Should we not trust Him to reveal to us how to love each other?

C is for Character

Side note: Everyone keep my wife in your prayers. She has an 11 x 11 mm kidney stone. Ouch.

Character. Martin Luther King Jr once said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Content of character. What kind of character are you? 1st John 4:20 says, "If someone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?"

Our character is really driven by what we put our faith in. Do we believe in a God who loves us so much that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but will have eternal life? Or have we put our faith in a petty god who holds grudges and only accepts you if you follow what some people think he wants? Mine faith is in a God who loves us so much that he separates me from my sin as far as the east is from the west. A God who throws my sins into the sea of forgetfulness. I love Him because He loved me first.

This is the type of character I want to be. This is the character that looks beyond skin color and point of view and just loves those around.

Okay. It's a simple and typical B. Berean. How many of us are truly Bereans? What does that even mean? Some may ask.
So many of us just take what our pastors or friends tell us. They listen to what some website has to say. Some will even watch movies and take that as the "truth."
But what does being a Berean mean? It means listen to what people say, but verify.
I like to give my opinion here. I share my views. I can even point to scripture to maybe back up my claims.
But so many people don't dig deeper...Someone once told me that they didn't need to read their Bible because their person in authority would tell them what they needed to know. I asked them well, what if they're wrong.
I've been wrong. It's easy to get caught up in "Well, Pastor So and So said..." So many of us just take what someone tells us and don't find out for ourselves.
Example: How many wise men were at the manger? Most would say 3. The Bible says the wise men entered the house (not the manger) and doesn't say how many. (See Matthew 2:11) So were they at the manger? Not according to the Bible.
This is just a blog to make you think. Don't take my word for anything. I hope you listen to what I say but find out for yourself. I'm just like the woman at the well. I like to talk about Jesus, but I hope you come to experience Him for yourself.

Soul and Spirit

For the word of God [is] living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things [are] naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we [must give] account.

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast [our] confession.

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all [points] tempted as [we are], [yet] without sin.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

The division of the soul and spirit.

The soul and spirit. Hmmm. Now, understand these are only my thoughts. I do not declare this is how it is. I make no such proclamations or announcements.

I once had an atheist ask me, “Do you think man has a ‘soul’?”

I knew he didn’t really care what my answer was. I’ve had many conversations with him and even though he and I are friends I’ve also come to understand he was only interested in giving me his point of view. So I said, “I don’t know. What do you think?”

He said, “He didn’t think man had a soul, therefore his ‘soul’ didn’t need to be saved, because he didn’t have a soul.”

What is the “soul?”

One definition according to dictionary.com is “the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part.”

Although I agree that it is separate from the body, I disagree that it is “spiritual.” I believe that they are two separate entities, the soul and the spirit.

I believe everyone has a soul. To me, the soul is the personality of the person. People can have a soul and still be heartless. For I believe that the “spiritual” part of a person is that which is connected to God. People can be body and soul, but “have not the spirit.” (Romans 8:9)

I do believe that the ‘soul’ can be emotional. But, I believe that love, true love, is controlled by the spirit. This is why I believe that Bible states that “the word of God [is] living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit…”

Emotions and feelings can cloud love.

When you accept Jesus into your life and heart you are tapping into God. You are giving life to the spiritual side of you. Learning to distinguish between love and feelings can be a foggy road to traverse, but the Word of God can help clear the clouds and be “… a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Bringing the soul into the obedience of the spirit can be a hard thing. But we have been given grace and mercy through Jesus Christ as we learn by God’s Word (Jesus) to yield to the spirit.

Before I close my thoughts on this allow me to give an example of what I mean. Some people have fun personalities and they like to joke around. Sometimes the jokes can be mean and hurtful. A soul yielding to the spirit of God now dwelling within them will discern when a joke will be hurtful and will surrender to the spirit and not say the joke. Although the joke may have made a lot of people laugh, it may hurt someone in particular, so it is not told. The enjoyment of the many that may make you popular is yielded to the love for the individual who will be hurt.

Do you sacrifice love for your own pride? That’s what the religious leaders did when they lied about Jesus and had put Him to death.

But, that was all part of God’s plan for us.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.

Being "Spiritual"

Years ago I had a conversation with someone on the phone. Eventually our conversation got around to Jesus. My phone partner got defensive which is funny since his phone conversation started with him lying to me.

I asked him why he was hostile.

He explained about his sister and her being this “religious” person and how she would always attack him.

I asked him if I had attacked him, or judged him, or in any way was rude to him.

Which lead him to comment about how the most “spiritual” person he had ever met was a Buddhist monk who, at the age of 16, went to live at a monastery and, at 60, is still living there.

I told him I could be the most “spiritual” person in the world if I didn’t have to deal with people.

Which leads me to another conversation that I had with a friend - we were talking about life on other planets. He asked me if I thought life existed on other planets.

I said, “I don’t know. But how does that help me to love you.”

My simple point to him, which he figured out, is that we can get so sidetracked on things that have no bearing on the people around us, that we forget how to love the people around us. Take the monks for instance – how does separating yourself from everyone help make the world a better place? Should we not be there for our family and friends?

We, as a people, like to be in our little “bubble.” We prefer not to have to deal with conflict or with people who disagree with us. We avoid people we consider “undesirable.” I’m guilty.

Jesus, the Lord of the universe, in one of his most simple acts told Zacchaeus that “I need to eat with you.” It profoundly changed Zacchaeus’ life. Zacchaeus was one of the most hated Jews of his day – a tax collector. Most of us know the story. He was a short guy that worked for the Roman government. Despised by the Jews and probably looked down upon by the Romans, which is probably why he did what he could to profit. Possibly all he had was money to befriend him.

Jesus simply loved him. He didn’t recoil in horror because he was a dreaded tax collector. He didn’t make fun of him because he was short. He simply loved him. “I need to eat with you.” Simply put he told Zacchaeus, “I want to hang out with you” - a simple act of love.

How many people around us just need someone to smile at them? How many people just need someone to acknowledge their existence?

Without getting into a long rabbit trail, realize there does come a time when you have to “brush off the dust from your feet and move on.” Some people will just hate you.

Anyway, we are called to be “in” the world but not “of” the world. Seek God’s kingdom first. Touch those you can, walk away from those who will seek to drag you down, and pray that God gives you the discernment to know the difference.

Am I good at this? Nope. But I’m pressing towards the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

A Poet Once Said...

A poet once said, "Most men live lives of quiet desperation." I sometimes understand what he meant. There are some days where I feel so lonely in a crowd of people. Who can I talk to? Who can I share with? Is God listening? I know He cares, but as the child who cried in the night to its parents, when the parents assured the child that Jesus was protecting him, he quietly said, "I need Jesus with skin on."

I, in my humanness, need Jesus with skin on sometimes too. I need the touch of another. Can the ones around us know? Do they want to know? Will they turn and walk away if they could see the thoughts inside this skin? Or will they love, for love covers a multitude of sins?

The computer screen can be therapeutic. It can give the opportunity to release some thoughts. But it can be so cold. No skin on. No shoulder to lean on.

Sometimes it can be lonely even with your family.

Sometimes I feel those moments of "quiet desperation."

Keep me and each other in your prayers.

Wu wei (traditional Chinese: 無為; simplified Chinese: 无为; pinyin: wúwéi) is a ...concept that involves knowing when to act and when not to act. Another perspective to this is that "Wu Wei" means natural action - as planets revolve around the sun, they "do" this revolving, but without "doing" it; or as trees grow, they "do", but without "doing". Thus knowing when (and how) to act is not knowledge in the sense that one would think "now" is the right time to do "this", but rather just doing it, doing the natural thing.

Wu-wei…to do without doing. This could be an explanation of Love in action. It just “does.” When it is rules and regulations that you follow, it could be without love, and in the eyes of God it means nothing. But, when one just does, because it is a natural flow of who you are, then you are ‘doing unto Jesus as you do unto the least of these.’

Consider the parable of the sheep and the goats. The sheep housed the homeless, clothed the naked, fed the hungry, but weren’t concerned about it being the “Christian thing to do.” The sheep did these things were considered “faithful servants,” yet, they didn’t understand.

“When did we do this?” they asked.

“As you’ve done it unto the least of these you’ve done it unto me,” was Jesus’ response.

They saw a need and responded. No consideration or whether a person in need was ‘worthy’ or not.

We are called to be disciples. I always believe that a disciple is someone that is teachable. I don't want to be someone who is "ever learning, but never coming to the knowledge of the Truth."

I know knowledgeable people who don't know how to love. Why is that? "He who has not the spirit of Christ are none of his."

May we surrender to Christ and allow the spirit to teach us to "do without doing." May we grow in His love.

A Short Thought

If the only reason you make friends with someone is because you're trying to convert them to your point of view, instead of a genuine love for them, then no matter how much you "proclaim" Jesus, you're not Lifting Him up and you basically fulfill the prophecy of "They profess me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me."

Jesus said, "If I be lifted up, I will draw men unto me." Is Jesus God in the Flesh?
Is God Love? Then, doesn't it follow that If Jesus is God and God is Love, then Jesus is the embodiment of Love. So, are we not lifting up Christ when we lift up Love...(Do not get me wrong...I will not separate Jesus and true Love...not this fuzzy wuzzy emotional thing called love.)

Which all gets me back to my original thought. If you refuse to love someone because they don't agree with you, you are not lifting up Christ.

Don’t know how many of you have ever seen the movie “Office Space.” There are those that won’t watch it because it’s rated R. There are those that will have their precious sensibilities offended. That’s okay. We love you anyway… 

I bring it up because I was thinking of a scene where Jennifer Aniston’s character is talking to her boss about her “flare” – the number of buttons on her suspenders. She hated her job. She disliked the people. She did the minimum required for her job. Her boss was suggesting she add more “flare.” She was arguing if you wanted me to have more “flare” then say I have to have more “flare.”

There was another character that was cheerful and had more “flare” than was required. He liked what he did. (He’s usually the one everyone hates. Been there. Done that. Had to repent.)

Isn’t this how most of us approach our relationship with Christ? We think because we’ve done the minimum we are alright. We don’t go the extra mile. We won’t wash another’s feet. Where’s the love in that? Where’s the faith in that? You know, I believe that’s what James was trying to get across when he said, “You say you have faith without works. I’ll show you my faith by my works.” What he did was out of love. What he was saying was, “If you love, you do well.”

What does any of it boil down to?

We are to put our faith in Christ. Christ is God incarnate. God is Love. Therefore, Christ is Love incarnate. If we put our faith in Christ, we are putting our faith in God. Thus, we are putting our faith in Love. Love can’t help but go the extra mile. Love can’t help but help those in need. He is what drives us. He is what sustains us. He is what leads us. He was. He is. He always will be. Loves doesn’t do the minimum. Love goes the extra mile.

If you have never seen an elephant before, and you were blind, how would you describe it?

Picture this: you and a team of learners are presented with the task of describing an elephant. But instead of looking to an encyclopedia or a zoo exhibit, you are each blindfolded and guided to a real elephant. Each of you touches a different part of the animal: one, the soft and delicate tip of the elephant's trunk; another, the hard tusk of ivory; and a third, the wrinkled hide around the elephant's belly.

Based upon what each of you learned, one thinks an elephant is smooth and soft, another would say an elephant is smooth and hard, while the last would conclude that elephants are rough and soft. What's the truth? When we study complex topics, we are often like the elephant examiners: there's usually a lot more to a topic that we don't learn about after only a quick exploration.

Terry Scott Taylor of Daniel Amos fame and other entities of musical artistry related a story about Koko the gorilla. Koko was taught sign language by her handlers. One day there was an earthquake. When the handlers asked Koko what she was thinking she signed to them “Darn Floor. Big Bite.” We in our limited capacity are like Koko. How can we describe an infinite God with our finite knowledge? He has revealed Himself to us through His Son. He has made Himself accessible to us through Jesus. Jesus is the Door. He is The Way. He is that final Word from God. But we see through a glass darkly. Jesus saves us. But to say we have God figured out, we’re only fooling ourselves.

Sound bite and bumper sticker theology is a fascinating thing. We throw a gospel quote here and line there. We put it on bumper stickers. I like a good quote like the next guy. Sometimes all we have are a few moments of time.

I would like to share my observations on God. Someone once said, “If you think you’ve got God figured out, your god is too small.” So many of us think we have it figured out. Of one thing I am sure, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. Jesus is THE Way…Jesus is the Door. Jesus is God incarnate. God is Love, therefore Jesus is the embodiment of Love. We have One Way to God, and that is through Jesus Christ and Him crucified. This is what makes us acceptable to the Father for there is no other way. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:18 that “The preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to those who are saved, it is the Power of God.” Jesus’ death on the cross is the only acceptable and final sacrifice that God recognizes. Our works and good deeds won’t save us.

There is a song we sing in the church called “Amazing Grace.” We’ve all sang it at one time or another and there are different versions that I have been recorded. One of the lines in the song says, “When we’ve been there 10,000 years, bright shining as the sun/We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise, than when we first begun.” Why is that? Because, after 10,000 years, we still would have so much to learn of the greatness of God. Time is irrelevant in the Kingdom of Heaven, but still, you can understand the concept of the infinite God.

Paul said in Romans 8:8-9 “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man has not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.”

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day knew the letter of the law, but knew not the spirit behind the law. Why did God lay down what is considered the law? What was His motive or reason? It was His love for us. Because you do ‘good’ in the name of Jesus, does that make you ‘good?’ Are you willing to love your enemy? John said, “If you say you love God and hate your brother, you’re a liar.” Then people start accusing you of “wanting the church to just ‘run wild’ with sin.” Because I say the law cannot save you, does this mean I’m saying you can do what you want? What do you want to do? Is it harmful to your fellow humans? That’s not love. If it’s not in faith, it’s sin.

The concept of licentiousness is a concern within the church also. When God came before Moses He made this declaration, “And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation." (Exodus 34:6 and 7. NIV) We are saved by grace through faith.

Do we have faith? Really? Do we?

I can’t see your heart. You can’t see mine. We struggle and we stumble and sometimes we fall. But faith knows that God has not abandoned us. Faith doesn’t dwell on it and neither does faith point the finger and condemn, for that is too easy to do. I know. It’s too easy to look down our noses at those whom we deem as “sinners” and say to God, “I thank you Father that I’m not like that person.” When Jesus told the parable, He said the Pharisee prayed “thus with himself.” We think ourselves good because we are not like “that person.” Do you really think that God is impressed with our “I’m good because I’m not that bad” defense? Rahab, by faith, hid the Israelite spies. Her actions were in faith and her family was saved.

The New Testament does condemn those who “practice” sin or make it a habit and don’t have a problem with it. All of us are guilty of being tempted. Some of the time we may fall.

"You shall not take (to accept, extol, put on) the name of the LORD your God in vain (empty, void), for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.” Exodus 20:7

Jesus said to his disciples “"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Matt 7:21. There are so many people that use Jesus’ name as some sort of magic incantation. I sometimes wonder if that is what God was talking about “taking His name in vain.” There’s the story about the guy who tried to use “in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches” against an evil spirit, but then got his butt kicked.

Life seems to have pendulums. We go this way, we go that way. We argue with each other because we want to be ‘right.’ “My side is correct and if you don’t agree with us, then you are just evil.” The rock group Extreme have an album (CD for you literalists out there) called Three Sides to Every Story. What are those 3 sides? Your, mine and the Truth. Like the elephant descriptions, each description was true, but it doesn’t tell the whole story.

There are those who don’t like the book of James because there are those who use it as a tool to push the “faith PLUS works” doctrine. But James is trying to make a point. He is trying to remind his readers, “You say you have faith? But if you have faith in God, is not God love? So if you have faith in love, doesn’t that mean you will do what you can to help those in need? But what are you doing? You’re playing favorites. You like those with money and give them the best places while pushing back those you don’t think can help your cause. Where’s the love in that?” Love doesn’t play favorites. Love sees a need and does what it can to help. This is the bottom line of what James is trying to get across. He says “If you love, you do well.” James 2:8

Those are all thoughts from my finite mind. My own part of the elephant. I can't know it all. All I do know is that I am saved by faith and not by works, so therefore I can't boast about how good I am. It's not me but Christ who lives in me.

There is so much to know about God. May we loves Him with all our hearts, minds and strength.

Love with God's Heart

Who am I, but a man. I am no more special than the bum on the street, nor am I of less importance than the president. Others have more talent than I. Others less. My knowledge is limited to what I have encountered and what I have read.

My faith in Christ guides me in my walk through this life. I could spend years in studying about Christ and still miss Him. I could spend unlimited time under teachers of Christ and still miss Him.

He is the Creator. He is the Way. He is the Truth. He is The Life. He has given us life. We are to live it more abundantly. That has nothing to do with quantities of mammon. This has nothing to do with sizes of domiciles. This has nothing to do with how powerful or fast my mode of transportation.

When we first step into the "fear of the Lord" we come to know and love Him, because we come to know that He first Loves us. When we realize that He gave His life to open the door to a relationship with Him we realize that He has called us to Love. He has not called us to hate those who hate Him. He told us to Love our enemies. He has called us to a life of Love. Not as the world loves, but as He loves. This takes more than our rules and regulations laid out in our earthly institutions or religious clubs. This takes every bit of our lives. It takes emptying self and filling with Jesus' Spirit, the Holy Spirit.

It takes walking out the door of our institutions and touching those who need Him.

It's a big world out there. Love with God's heart.

Becoming One's Own Idol

When the rich young ruler approached Jesus and asked what he needed to do, Jesus said, “you know the law.”

The young guy said, “I’ve done all that.”

Jesus then said, “Sell all you have and come, follow me.”

The rich young guy walked away sad.

Before this conversation takes place, the rich young guy said to Jesus, “Good master.”

Jesus said, “There is none good, but God.” Which therefore begs the question, “Do you believe that Jesus is God?” The young ruler didn’t believe. What is the first commandment? “I Am the Lord God, you shall have no other gods before me.”

So many of us think that because we “don’t drink, don’t chew, don’t date those that do” we are right before God. But we don’t let go of our egos, or money, or self-righteousness, bitterness, anger, addictions, un-forgiveness or whatever. We claim it’s a part of who we are. We constantly walk away from Jesus claiming we believe in Him, yet, we cling to our idols of self. Jesus does not abandon us. We walk off on Him. He will never leave nor forsake us, but so many times we forsake Him.

There are none righteous, no not one. We have all fallen short. Any in the body who claim otherwise are liars. “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” 1 John 1:18

I like to read. I’ve been reading Dean Koontz’s Intensity for a while now. Sometimes I read fast, other times it may take me a while to get through a book. The main bad guy is extremely evil. The main character is being held captive by him and she’s trying to figure him out. After some time with him she realizes that he’s not a wolf when the moon comes out. He’s just a person. But she realizes his main sin. This is how Dean Koontz describes her understanding.

“His base sins were envy - of beauty, of happiness - and pride, bending the whole world to his view of creation, and these were the greatest sins of all, the same transgressions over which the devil himself, once an archangel, had stumbled and fallen a long way out of Heaven.”

Pride sees the world through its own view and refuses to see things from any other perspective. But, God the Creator of Heaven and Earth, stepped out of Heaven and took on the form of man to see things from our perspective. He loves us that much.

What is it that justifies us? Our church attendance? How ‘good’ we are? Who we associate with? It is Christ that justifies us before God. But how many of us truly understand that? We believe that our standing with God is based on our performance. Our pride stands in the way of Faith. Because we think that what we do should be taken into account for our salvation. Thus, we make ourselves our own idols.

We do things that we think will improve our standing with God. We don’t associate with “that type of person,” or we don’t “go to those type movies.” “I’m a Christian and I don’t do those things.”

So much of who we are has nothing to do with our lives in Christ. The idea of submission in the body of Christ has been lost because of the abuse of power within the body of believers. Men have behaved like rulers, yet refuse to give themselves as Christ gave himself for the church. Women in the body have been treated badly by leadership if they didn’t ‘submit’ to their husbands.

Marriages have ended because of the demands of submission. No demand should be made of someone that you are not willing to submit to.

How much better the world would be if each of us would put our faith in Christ and let Him live through us. In the Way, let Him love through us. As John the Baptist said, He must increase and I must decrease. To put one’s faith in Christ is to put one’s faith in God. If God is Love, then we must put our faith in Love. Love is not idle.

Jesus said to love God, then love each other. Then He loved us first. He loved us unto death.

Love is a risk. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. God gave us Jesus. God gave us Love. Man took Him, lied about Him, spat on Him, beat Him, mocked Him then nailed Him to a cross, because man thought that he knew better than God. This is what we do to Jesus every time we refuse to love those around us for whatever reason. For those reasons we have become our own idols.

Kenny Loggins and The Doobie Bros 6-27-10 Free Concert

Kenny Loggins and the Doobie Bros performed on Okaloosa Island June 27, 2010 to help promote tourism during the oil spill. Both bands did great sets.

And the concert was free. Kenny Loggins performed first. The Doobies played last.

Great fun was had by all.

Don't Be Surprised

“Don’t be surprised when they hate you,” Jesus told his disciples.

Who hated Jesus the most? Those who were in positions of religious power were the most hateful. The government establishment was indifferent. They were more concerned with keeping the peace, and if that meant allowing the religious crowd to kill off some rebel rouser then so be it. Those in control cannot be bothered by Love. Love has no place in the halls of power, whether it is in the halls of religious power or political power.

The religious leaders in Jesus day were self-righteous in their own eyes, but they sought to have Jesus executed using lies. They were so “righteous” that they wouldn’t enter Pilate’s house in order to not defile themselves because of the Passover, but they were willing to lie and bribe in order to have an innocent man executed to save their power. (John 18:28)

Jesus is the King of kings, but it has nothing to do with political power. Jesus once said they knew “the letter of the law, but didn’t know the Spirit behind the law.”

Why did the religious leaders despise Jesus? Jesus was taking away their power over the people. They were losing their control. When they lost control, the political authorities would come down on them, or their positions of authority would be questioned. When it finally came down to it, the religious leaders and their minions declared, “We have no king but Caesar.” Hmm. (John 19:15)

I heard a Jewish story once about after the Jewish people finished crossing over the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s troops were drowned, the Jewish refugees were cheering and dancing over the troop deaths. God looked down on His people and scolded them. He told them, “Don’t be cheering and dancing over their deaths. Don’t you realize I love them too?” (Proverbs 24:17 “Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles”)

Some people look at ‘being hated for Christ’ as a badge of honor. I believe Jesus mourns over everyone who dies without Him. His heart breaks for all who hate Him. He wasn’t telling us that we should be proud of being hated for His name sake; He was letting us know not to be surprised. Because, sometimes people who don’t take sides are simply trying to love each side of an argument are usually hated by both sides because they don’t take a side.

But, these people who are quote, unquote hated for Christ, are they really ‘hated for Christ’s sake,” or are they just hated because they are jerks? Are these same people willing to go the extra mile for those who are the least of these or do they feel justified claiming that “they got what they deserved?” Are we willing to love those who laugh at us, or are we content to just claim martyrdom?

We need to ask ourselves are we trying to love people for Christ whether they like us or not, or are we just wanting to win an argument because it makes us feel superior? Are we being hated because we simply want to love people and try to share Christ or because we are arrogant and self-righteous?

Jesus was hated by the religious community because he was “a friend of sinners and publicans.” I hope I can be hated for the same reasons.

The following post is my list of my 12 favorite movies.
This list has a variety of genres and varies widely through the years.
There are a number of movies that I thought about listing on here, but decided there were other movies I liked better. I could have also just included all the Pixar movies, but just decided on my one personal favorite. These movies are not my favorites because they are technically great or even worthy of major critical acclaim. These movies are just movies I like to watch. If they are on TV I'll stop and watch them. I have most of these on DVD. Some of them I have to go back and get the DVD, because all I have is the VHS version.
So without wasting any more of you time, My 12 favorite movies.

This has always been one of my favorite movies.

This movie makes me laugh, makes me cry, makes me wanna be married to Bonnie Hunt.

This is my favorite Adam Sandler movie. Always love watching this.

This has always been my favorite Pixar movie. Toy Story was great. I just happen to favor this one. Love the story. Love the Family.

Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart in the same movie. With Katherine Hepburn thrown into the mix. What more can you ask for?

This has got to be one of my all time favorite war movies. William Holden is great as the loner just trying to make the best of his situation in a prison camp.I just love when he gets away from the cops in the town and slowly turns and smiles into the camera.
This was the most fun I've had at the movie theater in a long time. Apart from Pixar movies, this was a great story, and just a fun time.

I liked this adaptation of Hamlet. Thought it was well done.I like the dilemma that Steve Carrell finds himself. In love with the woman who turns out to be his brother's girlfriend, then tries to do the right thing.

Another one of my favorite Cary Grant movies. He does comedy so well. One of my favorite westerns set in the outback. And I like Tom Selleck.

12 Favorite Classical Pieces

Sorry this isn't a fancy post...nor is it long winded like my ramblings...Just am "tossin' it out" LOL...(Stolen from another blog)

My 12 favorite classical pieces in no particular order....

Classical Gas by Mason Williams...okay...can you really say it's classical music...well, I would like to think so. Modern classical. And it's a great piece of music. So sue me.

Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach...before this piece became know for its relation to old horror movie music Bach used to sign all his work To God be the Glory...I associate this song with Rollerball starring James Caan

Kill the Wabbit...originally known as Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner...or Vagner as some would pronounce it.

"Moonlight" Sonata by Beethoven...I've always loved the moody nature of this piece.

The Four Seasons by Vivaldi ...love music that celebrates the weather. Climate change...been happening ever since God created the heavens and the earth.

Fur Elise by Beethoven...hey, who wouldn't love a musical piece that Schroeder likes. Reference "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat Minor by Tchaikovsky...The opening notes wake me up...:)

Morning, from "Peer Gynt" by Grieg ...Just something so soothing about this piece.

The Blue Danube - Waltz by J. Strauss II...A beautiful waltz.

Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18, "Moderato" by Rachmaninoff...big, dramatic and just cool music.

Eine Kleine Nachtmusick, 1st Movement by Mozart...see if you can guess the movie reference...Mozart's Ghost...

Traumerei by Schumann...Only 3 minutes and 6 seconds...by soothing...elegant...beautiful.

Okay...12 classical pieces...not whole CDs. The list could go on...Classical music is so cool. Kerry Livgren from Kansas was inspired by Debussy...There is a lot of classical influence in Kansas' music.

But anyway...There you have it...My 12 classical favorites...This list changes over time. Some pieces I rediscover...others I never leave behind...Fur Elise being one...I love that piece...

I posted this back in 2008. Stuff to think about when contemplating the Christian Music issue.

John 21:21-23
Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, "But Lord, what about this man?"
Jesus said to him, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me."
Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?"

So many misunderstandings are based on a misused word, a wrong quote, or just plain ‘jumping to conclusions.’
Take the text used above. Peter was concerned about what someone else was going to be doing, Jesus said, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me." The disciples jumped to the conclusion “that this disciple would not die.” Jesus didn’t say that. Jesus was just pointing out ‘whatever I tell him to do, it is none of your business. You do what I ask of you.”
We can never and should never assume that we know what God wants someone else to do. Hosea is a good example. God told Hosea to marry ‘the wrong kind of woman’ as some people would call her. It became a prophet’s lesson to God’s people. We act like the wrong kind of woman but God loves us anyway and keeps bringing us back to Himself.

I started writing this the other day and yesterday (1-12-08) I had a thought (rare for me, to be having a ‘thought’ such a painful endeavor, I try not to do to much of it) and I asked myself this simple question, “Do I do good things because I’m good or because I’m good I do good things?” Religious people would have me believe that if I do good things I must be a good person. But, there are bad people that do good things. Jesus points that out when He said, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"(Matt 7:11 and Luke 11:13)
Anyone can do good things but it doesn’t mean they are good.

So maybe because I’m good, I do good things? Oh heck no. Apart from Christ, in me dwells no good thing. Paul reminds us that, “As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one;” Romans 3:10.

All I can do is fall on God’s grace and mercy found at the foot of the cross and boldly rise a new creation and “Love God and love my neighbors.” Funny though, my neighbors aren’t just those that treat me well, but those that don’t too. It’s God’s kindness that leads people to repentance. Love is what we show to those who love us AND those that don’t.

Am I good, because I do good things? No. Do I do good things because I am good? No. I do good things because God is good and God is alive in me and God’s spirit leads me to do good things. Apart from Jesus what I do is nothing.

Back to my original thoughts on “If I have him tarry til I come…” Do I think God would have someone just sitting around on their butts doing nothing? No. Is it my business to meddle in what God is having someone else do? No, but I can pray that they are seeking God’s guidance and their focus is on Jesus. I believe that if you are spending time doing what God has called each of us to do, “Love God and love your neighbor,” we won’t have time to meddle in other people’s affairs.

Here is some fun things to think about. I’ve read blogs that say you have to do certain things and you will be saved. I’ve done those things. As Paul said, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe with your heart, you will be saved.” Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father, but through Me.”Do I believe that Jesus is the only Way to God? Yes I do. I don’t think you can work your way to heaven no matter what religious affiliation you are. I do not believe there are many paths to God. (“No one comes to the Father but through Me.” Doesn’t sound very pluralistic to me.) John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but will have everlasting life.”

I’ve been baptized, identifying myself with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. I did it out of faith in Christ. He did it as an example, why shouldn’t I?

Repented? Yes. I have confessed my sins to God. I have given in to the love that God has for me. I have changed my way of thinking towards Christ.

But you know what? My faith isn’t in those things I’ve done above. My faith is in Christ. It’s so easy to lose sight of placing your faith in Christ and melting into justifying yourself by your religious acts.

Galatians 2:15-21 “We [who are] Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, [is] Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not! For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the [life] which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."

Galatians 3:1-3 “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?”

Finally Paul asks the question, “[Is] the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.” Galatians 3:21-29

But then he concludes, “But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor [to bring us] to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you [are] Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Paul does mention baptism. But if Paul really thought that baptism was a major tenet, then why did he say in 1 Corinthians 1:17, 18 “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
Prior to saying what Paul did he was addressing the divisions in the church. Apparently there were those that we developing little followings. We lose sight of Christ when we’re concerned more with how things are done and not concerned with loving those who need Jesus so desperately.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now abide faith, hope and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

James said it, ‘If you love, you do well.’

John said it, “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” 1 John 4:8
Jesus said, “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35

Paul also said, “For you, brethren, have be called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13 (This is not a coercion tactic. Paul was reinforcing the view that we are free from the law, now let us love one another as Christ loves us.)

Finally Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 4:9 “But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;”

Do I have a problem with baptism? No. Let us all be baptized and identify ourselves with Christ. Does that give me the right to assign someone to their little piece of hell if they don’t agree with me? NO! Let us love the unlovable, share hope with the hopeless, and share faith with the faithless.

Let God take care of the rest.
